Grand Opening- Sunday 17th October at 3pm!

On Sunday 17th October 2010 at 3pm, the garden will be officially opened! After 7 years in the preparation, countless exhibitions, plans, meetings, considerable fund raising efforts and sheer hard work from so many people in the community, the Leechwell Garden will finally open to the public on Sunday 17th October at 3.00pm. In what will be a dramatic launch ceremony, involving giant figures, specially composed music and local children from the Grove School, the Mayor, Councillor Tony Whitty, will be invited on behalf of the whole community to open the gates and lead everyone there into the garden. All are welcome.

The Leechwell Garden Association asked Helen Raphael Sands, organiser of the spectacular lantern processions which bring the Totnes Festival to a close on alternate years, to prepare a suitable celebration. Helen comments:

"It has been a fantastic challenge to come up with a launch ceremony that can draw on the history of the area and evoke the spirit of the place. We hope that people will come to see what we have come up with - let's just say it involves music, giant figures, local children and a procession through the garden!"
